Happy 36th book giveaway! To celebrate the fact that we are (slowly…) nearing the end of summer in Tucson (oh, the heat, I will not miss it…), last weekend I hid 30 copies of Happiness Falls by Angie Kim. This book has some amazing twists and turns. As the NY Times described it, this book as full of “ideas: the relativity of happiness; the way we make sense of events based on scant evidence; the Korean concept of jeong (“that sense of belonging to the same whole, your fates intertwined, impossible to sever no matter how much you may want to”); Noam Chomsky’s theory of psycholinguistic nativism; the rudiments of speech therapy; and, above all, the pervasive mislabeling and misunderstanding of neurodivergent people.” AND, this is all rooted in the mystery of a disappearance. This is one of those books that you might read late into the night.
If you’re new here and didn’t get a chance to find a book last Sunday, some of our amazing guest gnomes (shoutout to Caitlin, Erika, and Cynthia!) will be hiding an additional 15 books of this month’s selection (on top of the 30) around Tucson after the book-hiding weekend. So keep your eyes peeled over the next week or two, as 15 more copies of Happiness Falls will be hidden around town! I do not post any hint photos of these books, as they are truly meant to be a random act of kindness for those who happen upon them. Yay for random bookish joy and delight!
We have some exciting things coming up in September to celebrate our THREE-YEAR TOME GNOME-IVERSARY!!! We’ll be hiding an extra special book, and we’ll be launching our fundraising efforts to keep this all going in 2025. So keep an eye out here, on Instagram, and on our Facebook page for updates.
